• May to September – PWA Paddlers: Pemaquid Watershed Association kayak and canoe trips. All participants must have a PFD. The 2010 schedule will be posted soon - check back at our Paddlers Page for current information.
• June 21 – September 10: Pam Cabanas and Jane Herbert Art Exhibit “Cabanas & Herbert
at the Watershed” at PWA's office, 15 Courtyard St. above Salt Bay Café and
the Chamber of Commerce in Damariscotta weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
•Saturday, July 17, through September 4 – Beachcomber's Rest Nature Center Open: The Center will be open from 10:30-3:30 p.m
Tuesdays through Saturdays from July 17 to September 4 (weather permitting).
The Nature Center is a collaboration between Pemaquid Watershed Association
and the Bristol Parks and Recreation Commission. Nature Center programming
is offered free of charge unless otherwise noted; however, beach visitors
must pay the town’s park admission fee. Parking is free. DIRECTIONS: From
Damariscotta, take the Bristol Road (State Route 130) about 12 miles. Take
the first right about 50 yards after the Fire Department (and just before
Hannah's Store) onto Snowball Hill Road. Travel 9/10ths of a mile. At the
bottom of the hill, on the left, there is a sign for the entrance to
Pemaquid Beach Park (there's also a smaller Beachcombers' Rest Nature Center
sign). BRNC is in the pavilion.
• Sunday, September 12, PWA's Fifth Annual Cruise for a Cause: Hardy Boat Cruises will leave from New Harbor at 5:00 p.m. and return at
7:00 p.m. The route will feature Muscongus Sound: Seal Ledge, into Round
Pond, and with a view of Franklin Light. The route may be modified at the
discretion of the Captain. Hors d'oeuvres will be served. Tickets are $30
each; get your tickets early by contacting PWA. Sponsored by King Eider’s.
(We will meet at 4:30 at Shaw’s Wharf. Park in ball field. Parking fee of
$3.00 per vehicle.)
• September 13 – October 29: Jean Kigel Art Exhibit “The Wonder of Water” at PWA's
office, 15 Courtyard St. above Salt Bay Café and the Chamber of Commerce in
Damariscotta weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Tuesday, September 14: Jean Kigel Artist Reception, 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the PWA
office suite. Refreshments provided.
• Tuesday, September 14, New England Cottontail Seminar: The Pemaquid Watershed Association is pleased to sponsor
a seminar by Kelly Boland, New England Cottontail Restoration Coordinator,
about her work with private landowners, land trusts, and state and federal
agencies to restore populations of the endangered New England Cottontail
(NEC) in southern Maine. Discover how her investigation of the prime NEC
habitat locations and planning with landowners help to create shrublands,
which is the only habitat NEC will live and thrive in. Directions: 1268
Bristol Road (State Route 130), 5.7 miles from Main St. Damariscotta, at the
corner of Bristol Rd. (Rte. 130) and Upper Round Pond Rd.
• Saturday, September 18, Coastal Cleanup at Pemaquid Point and La Verna Preserve: The Pemaquid Watershed Association (PWA) invites you to help clean up parts of the Pemaquid Peninsula coastline on Saturday, September 18, as part of Coastweek, a national celebration of our coastal resources. Participants are asked to gather at 9:00 a.m. at the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse Park. There, cleanup areas will be assigned, and inventory sheets and garbage bags will be distributed. Depending on interest and agility of participants, one team will go to the La Verna Preserve in Chamberlain, and the others will tackle the shorefront, parking lot, and roadways around the Point, bringing trash back to the Lighthouse Park parking lot no later than noon. Bring work gloves if you have them; latex gloves will be provided. Please register to help by emailing info@pemaquidwatershed.org or by calling 563-2196. To reach the Park from Damariscotta, follow Route 129 for 2.9 miles then bear left onto Route 130 (Bristol Rd). Take Route 130 for 11.5 miles. Route 130 makes a sharp left turn; continue straight for a few hundred yards to the park entrance.
• Saturday, October 9, New Moon Dinner Dance 6:00-11:00 p.m., Round Top Barn,
Damariscotta: Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at 6:00, dinner and
dessert from 7:15 to 8:00 with live ambient piano music, dance at 8:00 with
Barnie Balch and his band. Catering by Stone Cove Catering. Cash bar. Dress
is classy casual. $50/ticket. Co-hosted by Damariscotta Lake Watershed
Association, Damariscotta River Association, and Pemaquid Watershed
Association. Tickets are available at the Maine Coast Book Shop or by
calling the DRA at 207-563-1393.
