Come celebrate the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend with a joint Pemaquid Watershed Association (PWA) and Damariscotta Lake Watershed Association (DLWA) kayak or canoe paddle. The PWA Paddlers will lead a paddling adventure followed by a BYO picnic on Saturday, September 26. The Paddlers will splash into Biscay Pond and paddle to Pemaquid Pond and back. The launch site is at #163 Fogler Rd. Bremen, a private property on Biscay Pond. The paddling trip will start at 10:00 a.m. and take about 2 hours.
The Great Maine Outdoor Weekend (GMOW) involves a series of events throughout the state to celebrate the how, where, and what of being active outside in Maine. The goal is to connect friends and neighbors with the natural world by promoting fun, physical activity, and good health. PWA and DLWA have participated in all the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend events. For more information about GMOW visit http://www.greatmaineoutdoorweekend.org/
For this GMOW event, paddlers must provide their own kayak or canoe and wear a personal flotation device. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The paddle will be canceled in the event of rain, fog or thunder. For weather cancellation information, PWA Paddler co-chair, Peter Lawrence may be contacted at 563-3104 or email@example.com. PWA recognizes that there may be some element of risk in any outdoor activity and requests that all paddlers have a signed PWA Paddlers Release Form on file in the PWA office. Please download and print the form from http://www.pemaquidwatershed.org/water/pwa-paddlers/ and bring it to the paddling event. The trip leaders will have blank forms available. The release form does not expire; therefore it only needs to be submitted one time.
Participation in the paddle is not required to attend the picnic, nor is joining the picnic mandatory. Attendees are asked to bring their own food and beverage for the picnic; a grill will be available, as well as rest rooms. To reach the launch and picnic site from Damariscotta, take Business Rt. 1B to Biscay Rd (McDonald’s on the corner). Travel about 3 miles to Fogler Rd on the right. Go about 1 mile down Fogler Rd to #163 (“Berger” is on mailbox). If participating in the paddle, please arrive by 9:40 a.m.
Both conservation organizations are pleased to be able to promote outdoor experiences, foster appreciation of nature, and create community connections with this paddle and picnic to celebrate the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend. PWA and DLWA always enjoy working in collaboration to support their missions and both are volunteer-based, membership-supported non-profit organizations.
