Paddle Boothbay/Indiantown Island Area & Seven Tree Pond, Union

The Pemaquid Watershed Association PWA Paddlers is offering a choice of either salt or fresh water paddles on Saturday July 11, at 10 AM.

The destination of the salt water paddle is the Spectacle Islands area in Boothbay. Advisory: This trip involves ocean paddling. Directions: Take Route 27 from Route 1 toward Boothbay for 9.6 miles to the monument in Boothbay. Take the second right onto Barter’s Island Road, passing Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, for 1.75 miles and then a left over the bridge to the Knickerkane boat launch where we will park. Portable rest room on site; paddle duration 3 hours; optional lunch at the Trevett Country Store. The paddle leaders will be Peter Lawrence and Diane Gilman.

The fresh-water paddle will be to Seven Tree Pond in Union. Directions: From Damariscotta take Route 1 North through Waldoboro to Route 235 (Union Road) on the left proceeding on Route 235, 8.3 miles, to the put in at the Public Boat Access in Union where there is a public rest room. The paddle duration is 2 hours followed by optional lunch at The Badger Café at Union Square. The paddle leader will be Jean Smith.

All paddles are free and open to the public. Paddlers must supply their own kayak or canoe, wear a life jacket and bring or have on file a standard release form which is available at PWA’s website or from the paddle leader. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The paddle will be cancelled in the event of rain.
