Pemaquid Watershed Association (PWA) will hold a Special Meeting of Members on Monday, August 31, at 6:00 p.m. at Lakehurst Lodge off Egypt Rd in Damariscotta. Prior to the meeting, PWA will conduct a question and answer session from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. PWA members who have questions about the proposed merger are encouraged to come prepared to ask their question succinctly in order to maximize the usefulness of the 30 minutes. Statements of position on the merger will not be permitted during the Q&A session. Members are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time in order to allow time to register.
At their July 2, 2015, regular meeting, the PWA Board of Directors voted on a resolution to merge with Damariscotta Lake Watershed Association, Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association, Sheepscot Wellspring Land Alliance, and Hidden Valley Nature Center. The vote was five in favor of the merger, six against, and one abstention, so the merger was not approved. The majority opinion of the Directors was that the proposed merger is not a good fit for PWA at this time. The PWA Board issued the following statement after the vote: “Although currently financially stable, organizations such as PWA do need to be looking into the future to ensure sustainability, and the Board has made a commitment to do that.” On July 8, 2015, a member petition was submitted to the PWA Board Secretary requesting a special meeting for members to vote on the merger. At this Special Meeting of the Members on August 31, PWA members will vote on the Membership Resolution. Members must be present in person to vote. PWA bylaws stipulate that each member in good standing is entitled to one vote. To check the status of a membership, please contact PWA at 207-563-2196 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
